"For putting the peace process between the Crab and the Crane at risk? There are any number of arguments that a skilled courtier could put forward to illustrate why I would have brought shame on the clan and whatever else you may say of him, Aoshi is one of the best. He's just been waiting for the right opportunity."
Kousei's left fist clenched involuntarily. "The vendetta between us has nothing to do with this investigation, but he may well try to turn it to his advantage. If you find me innocent, it will give me a basis to defend myself from other accusations. If not, then he will have only to sit back and let justice take its course to obtain personal victory."

Kousei bowed to the healer. "Thank you for your concern Gonhiro-san." He pulled the top off the salve and sniffed at the contents before replacing it and putting it down nearby. "I have not yet spoken to Hoketuhime-sama but I am hoping to hear from her shortly. This is of interest to you?"
He threw a challenging glance at the Asahina. Part of him felt that he was being paranoid, but between the events of the other night, the riots and the merchants' conspiracy over the pepper he was feeling remarkably suspicious of most people.

"You didn't attack Nozomi-sama," Kasumi said, "while I don't know all that much about politics, you tried to act with honour and protect people. That should be enough."

Kasumi turned around at his question. "I'm not really good at politics," she said, "but you tried to defend Nozomi-sama and you tried to stop Reiha-sama without using violence. The only one who died was the geisha and I doubt you will be asked to commit seppuku over the dead of a geisha."

For the first time since he woke up, Kousei smiled. It was a little thin lipped, but it was a sign of hope. He bowed to the magistrate. "I shall pray to the fortunes that you are right. In the meantime, is there anything else I can do for you, or any other questions you wish answered?"

He leans back, "Good..." though still obviously concerned.
"Thank you for your time, Kasumi san, is Asako sama free to go now?" Asked his karo

After a series of near misses, Kenshin was finally able to catch up with Tsuruchi Kasumi as she exited the kitchen munching on some dango.
"Tsuruchi-sama. I am Hiruma Kenshin, the clan magistrate assigned to help in your investigation." Kenshin introduces himself with a bow to the Tsuruchi after she finishes her first stick. "What can I do to help?" he asks.

POSTING AS ASAHINA GONHIRO, CRANE CLAN HEALER
Gonhiro nodded solemnly.
"Hai, this interests me as much as it interests our Clan, Daidoji-sama." he let out a small cough, trying to clear his throat. To Kousei it would seem as if Gonhiro was wheezing to catch his breath, perhaps the humidity or even the breeze had a bad effect on the old man's respiratory system.
"Lady Otomo is currently pre-occupied." he nodded "She had been given full report of the recent events and rumor has it that she'd already received word from a certain Doji Aoshi. Might you already have heard of him ?" Gonhiro inquired. His tone of voice not heavy at all...
The candles in the room flickered and the world stood still. It was apparent that the man was expecting an answer...

"Hiruma-san, good to meet you," Kasumi said with a bow of her own, "please follow me." She brought him to a secluded spot next to the shrine where they could talk in private. "I'm not sure how much you know about the problems," she said, "but in short, there was an attack on Yasuki Nozomi-sama and yasuki Kaneka-sama when they had retreated. This was done by Hida Reiha-sama who apparently was brainwashed by the Kolat. Kaiu Satomi-sama, Asako Chisato-sama, Daidoji Kousei-sama and Kurimuzon Te-san tried to stop her. They succeeded partially, as Nozomi-sama was wounded, but not mortally. Reiha-sama had a miscarriage. I've also heard rumours that Nozomi-sama was tainted during this attack, but those are not confirmed."
She waited for a few moments to give him time to absorb the information. "This is what I want you to do," she said, "there was a misterious heinim who 'activated' Reiha-sama by using some sort of keyword. The only description I have is 'bland' and 'nondescript'. I've heard that he had escaped through a trapdoor in the kitchen and that some soldiers of the legion are working on that part. I want you to try and find him. Secondly, there was also a geisha involved in all this. She had attacked Chisato-sama and was killed by him, but we haven't had any idea who she is. I would like you to find out who she is and what her involvement in all this is. And lastly, probably the easiest task, interrogation of the guards who were present in that part of the castle, especially those in front of the couple's chamber, and also Yasuki Odai-sama. He wasn't directly involved, but as responsible for at least part of the proceedings here, he might have some insights we can use."
"any questions so far?"

"I'm not responsible for the confinement to quarters," Kasumi said, "that's the Emerald champion's decision and I have no say in that. But there is a meeting tonight with the emerald champion and I assume a lot will be clear at that point."

He nods and turns his attention to his tome, turning to the pages for the imperial families. Likely to edit the recent changes in the recent wedding.

"Admit it. You're lost."
"That presumes I had any notion of where I was going to begin with."
"How have you lived this long?!"
"By remaining calm, Matsu-san."
The young woman's displeasure practically radiated at him like the heat of a fire. Kaigen continued.
"This passage leads somewhere. Otherwise we would have stumbled across the last man to use it by now, yes?"
It was probably just his imagination, but Kaigen swore he could hear her teeth grinding against one another.
Good thing it's dark, or I'd probably tell her how lovely she looks while angry. And then I would die. Horribly.
Probably worth it, though.

"Track down the heimin through the kitchen trapdoor, identify the geisha, interrogate the guards and question Yasuki Odai." Kenshin's face gets a pensive look as he tries to decide which one to pursue first. He could go after the heimin but they might remove the geisha's corpse to purify the room. If he investigate the geisha the heimin will escape. Hmmm. A tough decision. Choices, choices. He'd better check the room first and speak to the Kuni about investigating the body later. Then he can go catch up with the legionaires. Yasuki-san and the guards won't be going anywhere.
"I will ask the Kuni for some help in investigating the geisha's corpse then catch up with the legionaires Tsuruchi-sama. If there is nothing else I will start with the investigation immediately." He bows and waits to be dismissed.
A few minutes later he was in the room with the geisha's corpse trying to see if she had any clues to her identity.
