Arandaru clasped the amulet almost reverently
"A meishodo amulet doesn't work. It exists to preserve and protect...And this one is quite strong at that."
He looked at Kasumi and he then bellowed with a slight hint of thoughtfulness
"Anything can be a rogue servant of death, from a yokai to an oni. Every entity that can and will without any hesitation seek to unmake man and his creation." he said in a solemn and silently intoned sentence.
"Whereas I concur with what Satomi-san had said, tracking it's maker is not an easy task to be done. We have ancient Moto magic we speak of here. And while I might need to carry the amulet back to Shiro Moto to examine it further, it will both be too late and tiring for everyone." he coughed a bit. The air was rather dense and heavy in here.
"You say this belonged to Shosuro Mai-san, hai? Then it is of no doubt that Toturi Sezaru-dono would have known of its properties." he said in a puzzled look.
Arandaru made a mental note that the Wolf was either so cunning to have his fiancee killed by an Oni, or so oblivious of the fact that there was something sinister at works under his very nose.

"I have another question, if I may, Moto-san," Kasumi said, "can this amulet be used to see those servants of death when they are not visible to normal eyes. Like gaki, or shapeshifters?"

Maybe, someone into the Unicorn thought that meishodo should be necessary to Lady Mai somehow. And if so, maybe something very sinister is going on around Shosuro Sezaru and his bride. She should be truly desperate to rely onto powers from outside the Scorpion clan… as if she couldn't trust the Shugenja of her own clan…
It by it alone could be a reason to have been killed by the Scorpion. If delivering the meishodo to her was a mean to let Satomi know what could happen to her… Good, as if I am not paranoid enough.
She however waited to listen Arandaru's reply to Kasumi's last question.

Arandaru looked at Kasumi, his gaze more reprimanding than ever, yet his words had a quite different attitude altogether:
"Tsuruchi Kasumi-san, there isn't any answer in that. One cannot fathom the properties or the boons of a meishodo." turning at the Crane lady sitting beside them.
"Do not misinterpret, this is no tsangusuri, there is sorcery involved in that and the blessings of either a Fortune or a Kami. But no one can fathom as such."
He remained skeptical once more.
"One to bear such a gift, and of such importance and power is a rare occasion. I cannot presume that I am speaking for the Iuchi, but the Moto would definitely hold back on gifting such an amulet. Not due to the sake of the importance, but due to the sake of its power." he looked at Satomi and Kasumi once more.
"That much I can say" he replied with a relieving sigh.
"That isn't enough however...the item has been planted to the scene. This meishodo has been used to divert the attention from the true crime" would Arandaru think.
It was common knowledge half a year before, that Shosuro Mai "craved" to acquire Sezaru's attention and hand.
"And this is where it got her. Is it the Scorpion or is it the Wolf?"
Arandaru glanced at Satomi...all this Scorpion talking...her colors... He trusted her, but not that much. She was one of them and possibly she belonged to the family of the culprit.

Ah, then speaking of rogue servants of death and strange things happening… I must tell you both about what happened earlier to me. As she for a moment thought she wasn't dealing with a human spy, she thought it worth to tell in Arandaru's presence as well.
And then she told them what happened in her chamber a few hours ago, Miya Gensaiken's sudden arrival and everything else before it, even the "innocent comment" Miya Gensaiken let slip about a person who was obsessed by Sezaru, culminating with her noticing that her journal was missing.

"Then I have a request to make," Kasumi said, "as it's possible to see things otherwise unseen with it, I would like to check Lady Mai's room with it, just in case we can find something. Of course, should you wish to be present while I do so, you are welcome." A Moto death priest might see things without the amulet, so having him present could always help. And while he might be right that it was a planted item, she didn't want to take any chances. Not with an investigation that was Political with capital P.

Arandaru frowned at the mention of a Miya's name.. He made a mental note of this Miya Gensaiken...was he familiar with that name before? He doubted it.
Next came Kasumi's invitation and he couldn't resist. "I'll certainly oblige. We need to be cautious though." This realization came quite easy to him. Would he prove enough to assist them in this matter? Any piece of advice would be good and fitting...
So fitting...

"It's already late," Kasumi said, "what would you think about doing this first thing tommorrow? Unless of course there is a reason this should be done quickly. I'm not experienced with spirits and such, except for what we encountered at the Kaiu wall, so I bow for your wisdom in this."

Satomi followed the Moto reactions to its propposal with interest. Perhaps she had another ideas for the rest of the evening. Satomi already invited Arandaru for a dinner, but he didn't accept yet...

Arandaru turned his gaze from Satomi to Kasumi.
"Sounds fine. We're doing this tomorrow morning. You'll give the call Tsuruchi Kasumi-san and I'll be there."
Turning then to Satomi.
"For tonight we have so much things to discuss Satomi-san and I!" his glare getting thrown on Satomi, fierce and predatory.

"The first hour after sunrise," Kasumi said, "I'll sent a servant to the Unicorn embassy. Unless you are residing somewhere else?" She took the amulet and put it back into the cloth. "I'll put this with the other items we've taken from the room, and I'll bring it with me tomorrow."

Of course my Lady won’t oppose that the Magistrate keeps the item while the investigation takes place. However, I believe that's in her plans to find out the creator of this talisman to deliver it back…So everyone is sure that the power of this meishodo is in the right hands once again. She has great respect for the Unicorn Clan and their traditions… Satomi said to both. tsuruchi kasumi was a bit too used in using her authority as magistrate than asking politely, and in the case Satomi was a skilled Scorpion, it soon would become a problem. But Satomi wasn't. In fact, she was having a hard time trying to figure out her place in the world to even be the "old Satomi". However, even her thought that the Mantis would have problems very soon dealing with high ranked people so carelessly. Excellent, my friend! Moto Arandaru predatory glance didn't go unnoticed by Satomi, nor the alarming face Sharisha, or Arissa, his secretary, was sporting in the background.

Kasumi had also seen the glance Arandaru gave Satomi. Well, she could handle herself should it be necessary, Kasumi thought as she stood up. "I will leave you to your private discussions," she said, bowing to both, "and I'll see you tomorrow." With that she took the meishudo and left the inn, going back to the emerald magistrate post where she put the item under guard and then to her quarters. Requesting some paper and ink, she started to write some poems, always a good way for her to clear her mind.

The following morning Kasumi sent a message to Arandaru and Satomi, requesting their presence at the second hour after sunrise. That would give them enough time to do any preparations needed. She made sure to be at the room in time, bringing the amulet, but not taking it out of it's case before the Moto death priest was there. No need in getting strange things to start early. Satomi returned from her exercises, had a refreshing bath and changed clothes, before attending Kasumi's request. Still intrigued with the events of the day before, she hoped that, with Arandaru's help, they could find a clue about Lady Mai's death. Somehow she thought that, after the inspection of Mai's room, she could talk with Sezaru's assistant, Soshi Angai, and see what she'd get. She might know something worth of note…
Finally the Bayushi woman met Tsuruchi Kasumi in the room Lady Mai used to occupy. Bowing, she had the impression the Mantis woman was prettier today, in spite of the usual just righteous looks. Something in her seemed more subtly feminine and languid… Either someone had an excellent night here, or it has to do with being around babies too often. Hopefully the first option, she thought.
Ohayou, Tsuruchi-san… have you eaten rice today?
