Kasumi stepped between Akko and the monk. "She's with me, monk-san," she said with a courteous bow, before showing her badge, "she's helping me with a case we're working on." If things were really as Akko had described, there certainly was going to be a case, although it would probably involve more than just a couple of magistrates.

The monk sighed, eyeing to the Seppun guards and pondering whether it was worth involving them or not. Unfortunately, Magistrate, you will have to convince the Seppun Daimyo about her presence near any of the chimes. And if there's a crime involving the Brotherhood of Shinsei I'm sure our master wants to hear about it. It would be just gentle and proper to do. After his arrival, Akko lost her connection to the spirit of the bell, and Isawa Hanura rippled and disappeared from Sojuro's view. The girl was now shamelessly using Kasumi as shield from the monk's scolding, even if a light one. The old man eyed one and then other, shaking his head in disapproval: I request that you remove the girl from the pavillion and request permission from the pertinent authorities to do whatever you need involving this girl and the Chimes; you as agent of law don't wish to be example of disrespect towards an authority's express order. Do you?

"Of course not," Kasumi said, "unfortunately I wasn't officially made aware of the need for such permission, having returned to the city only recently. As to your worry about a connection with the brotherhood, there is none, except that the brotherhood might help in a later stadium. It's like this, some time ago I was part of a group of people who went to the Dawn Tower to recover an artefact. During this mission I was abducted by a number of Gaki and a couple of Oni into Yume-do, only to be rescued by a group of seven minor Fortunes. They told me a number of things which I'm trying to investigate and what this girl has to tell does correspond with what they were telling me. And I'm not going to ignore warnings from the Fortunes."
She didn't add the 'no matter what any daimyo wants', but it came across nevertheless. "But I understand your problems," she continued, "and I don't think we have to be closer to the bell."

A bit shocked by Kasumi's revelations, and fully convinced by her words that the Seppun guard would be needed, the monk called them: Guards, I think we have a problem here. A person which fully admitted to have contact with Oni in a recent time shouldn't be close the the Chimes. Rescued by seven minor Fortunes? This one was indeed Akko-team. Since that magistrate refused to reasonably cooperate and communicate with his superiors, it was his duty to protect the Chimes from an attempt as the one suffered in the past. And that girl obviously was a bigger problem than he had thought at first. The Seppun Guards came forward, attending his request. Please make company to the Tsuruchi-bugyo and the girl Akko to the exit, and if she so desires, please send word to our leader that she may be interested in scheduling an appointment.

Sojiro's head swam. He blinked once, trying to figure out what the hell was happening and clear his vision, but it was no use. The whole world went blurry, and then She was there.
Haruna.
Anyone watching him would have seen his face drain of color and his eyes go wide in shock. The ability to speak, to even think, was lost to him. She was dressed the same way she had been when... he had lost her. And she knew. He took one look at her, and understood that she knew she was dead... and the pain in his heart drowned out everything else except her words to him, the sound of her voice, and the message she had crossed between worlds to bring him.
What seemed like an eternity later to Sojiro but was in reality just a few seconds, reality snapped back into place with a jarring suddenness. He stumbled, catching himself before he fell completely, as the monk talked with Kasumi. It was a few more seconds before he had the ability to use his voice.
"Peace, Sozu. I understand your duty to protect the Chimes. If you truly think that the child or either of us may be tainted, I invite you to check for yourself." He snatched the jade bead from his braid, taking a few white hairs with it, and handed it to the monk. "I'm certain you know what this is, and how it would react to such things." He blinked again, trying to clear his thoughts and get the blood to return to his face. "See for yourself." He felt that he should say more, but his brain was having problems getting words to his mouth.

The monk raised an eyebrow at Sojiro's idea: If you think she's right, why don't you take your demand to the right person, Kakita-san?
Using everyone's distraction, Akko unexpectedly came forward and tried to dodge the guards, and reach the chime.
Please! Please! We need to… make it… toll!
The group of Seppun guards, however, had little work to capture her before she could even touch the huge bell.
NO! NO! Don't touch me! I know what I'm saying! Its sound… its sound…have power… Sojiro-sama! Mariko-sama! Jinzo, have mercy! PLEASE! ...Why don't you listen to me?
The girl was being carried by the guards, her shouts and struggling causing even more tumult as people around gathered to witness the incident.

Just great, Kasumi thought as Akko slipped away and started a scene. So much for doing this discreetly. She was however surprised that Akko called her Mariko, so there had to be something more to the girl then thought at first glance. Time to do things the Otomo way, she thought, taking our her emerald magistrate badge and going to the guards. She also made sure the amulet she had received from the Fortunes was clearly visible, as it might trigger some recognition in either the monks or the guards, who, as Seppun, had more affinity with things spiritual than most bushi.
"I'm Tsuruchi Kasumi, personal assistant to the Emerald Champion," she said, "put the girl down right now and please tell me what's going on here?"
OOC: I'm not sure if it's needed, but my ring 'roll' air 5 + initiator 1 + emerald magistrate 1 + the right question 0.5 + courting trouble 0.5 =8

The guards released Akko, who ran from the pavillion (maybe stumbling in her way out on a large Dragon monk). Tsuruchi-bugyo, we are following orders. This girl is causing trouble, diverting our attention from the possibility of a real attempt against the bells. You can't really raise issue on us doing our job, do you? One of them said.

Te enters the pavilion and is immediately run into. Bending down he scoops the young girl up into his large arms before raising himself up to his full height before facing the monk and guards.
"This child is under my protection" he say in a soft voice that still manages to fill the complex. In a more normal tone he continues "This girl is not causing trouble, she is trying to prevent it. If any of you had the sense of a child you would have listened to her rather than threaten her".
Turning his face to Akko he asks "did any of them hurt you little one?" When she confirms that no-one had hurt her turns once again to the monk.
"You should be ashamed. You have lost the wonder of the innocent, that which should make you want to learn all that you can. Not disregard others out of hand because they see differently than you do".

They fear me…I'm just a heimin who knows things they don't. She whispered. They fear listening to me, being I right or wrong. Akko seemed to come in realization. They are deaf to the words in the bells, and only thinking on politics… They will not listen. Both Te's Akko's words and caused great embarrassment, though the Seppun were stick to orders. The same monk started talking in low voice to others, then said to Te and the others: I'm sorry, brother. You can talk to Sojo tomorrow morning, before the ceremony. By now I ask you to leave. Now I know what to do!!! The bells are awake! Every bell has the power to affect and reveal a minion of "Darkness"…If you make them toll tonight, you will be able to "hear the true voice of evil" and know their true nature. It will not be possible once they're not in the same location! The spirit of the chime told me this! There's more, but she said it's not to my ears, but to you, and her, and him! You must believe me, Dragon-sama! By tomorrow after the ceremony the bells will leave the city! Akko whispered in Te's ears.

"You're right about that, Seppun-san," Kasumi said to the guard who had spoken, "and I will take up that offer to make an appointment with your Daimyo. I've seen quite a lot of strange things lately that I believe there's not such thing as impossible."
She heard the last thing Akko said. "I don't think tolling them all at the same time is really a big issue," she said, "and not something that will cause any harm. Unless of course there's something with the bells that I never learned."
It was possible, but if she remembered well, the bells had been used at the same time in the past. And the taint attempt that they were so afraid of had involved the use of a black scroll, one of the most powerful evil items in existance.

OOC: Not sure why ST was tagged here. Seppun, monk or Akko have anything relevant to say for now. You guys need to decide what you are going to do next.

Turning from the pavilion Te carries the young girl out into the sun. There he stands until Kasumi and Sojiro are able to join him. "Tomorrow, before the ceremony." he states. "Why do I get the feeling that it will not be good enough?"
"Kasumi-sama, is there anything you can do to get us an audience any sooner? I'm not sure they will deign to speak with me or Sojiro, in these political waters we are but minnows."

"I will try to get an audience with the Seppun daimyo today to explain a couple of things," Kasumi said, "maybe you can join me, as you were at the Dawn Tower as well and I have a feeling both are connected somehow."
She turned to Akko. "I had the feeling you saw something," she said, "but then you wanted to touch the bell. Do you think it is that really necessary to touch the bells? I mean, I might get you in but if you need to touch the bells, it will probably get more difficult?"

"I would be happy to join you." Te looks around furtively "uh, I'll just follow you then."
