Mai studied the books as she spoke.
"Such a rare collection, I couldn't possibly accept Doji-sama."

Hatosenshi nodded his head at Mai's refusal. "Nonsense. Those books have been in my family for years. They'll serve you as well as they've served my ancestors. I insist Shosuro-san."

"They have been in your family for so long they could be considered treasured heirloom Doji-sama" Mai shook her head, a slight smile on her lips "I would not wish to remove such precious heirlooms from your family."

"Shosuro-san, I must insist. You would honor me greatly by taking this gift." Hatosenshi bowed his head towards Mai as he reached for his tea.

"Then for friendship, and because I wouldn't want to hurt my dear Doji-samas honour after showing such kindness, I accept" she smiled, reaching for the books "tell me more about the author?"

Hatosenshi smiled at Mai's acceptance. "Of course! Kakita Yusiumi was an author during the thousand years of peace. It was claimed that her inspiration for her pillowbooks came from a love affair with a Crab and her Scorpion husband."

"Is that so? Unusual for such muses to be so widely known" Mai chuckled "I guess it was not so secret. How did Doji-samas family come into ownership of such books?"

"Ah, yes. I suppose it is just rumor, isn't it." Hatosenshi pondered the questions for a moment. "If I recall, one of my forefathers was the patron of Kakita-san and was gifted the books."

"Ah" Mai nodded "I see. A good position to take if you see potential in the artist. I shall have to read his work and see how it compares...unless Doji-sama can tell me which he prefers" she smiled, reaching for her tea curious which direction the Crane would take

"The fourth and final book, is really the author's best work." Hatosenshi said simply. "It showcases feelings without vulgarity, and does not resort to sensationalism like many similar authors would. It's an affair of the mind and heart, not of the bodies. Truly marvelous."

"So quite different to my work" Mai said, looking at Hato over the rim of the tea cup as she took a sip

"The beauty in art is the differences. Artists who replicate are not the ones we remember." Hatosenshi carefully chose his words, knowing Mai was attempting to trap him. "Differences define Rokugan."

"It is important to make ones work unique, although unique is not always better. It's in the reader to tell which is better, ne?" Mai smiled as she put her cup down

"I suppose one could take that view, but that is really the decision of the artist themselves." Hatosenshi set down his tea and stood. "Shosuro-san. It has been a pleasure having tea and conversation, and I hope we can continue this throughout the time at court. However, I have pressing business in the Lion quarters, and I must leave."
OOC: This happened before the duel, obviously.

"Of course" Mai rose and bowed "may the Fortunes watch over you Doji-sama. Until next time."
