"I count...four big ones, and one larger one with different colour skin" Mai said as she studied the bears, unaware of the Unicorn approaching

The Kaiu listened to the information, frowning.
Well... I hate to do it, Mai-chan, but I need to ask you to stay here for a moment. See that man entering the forest? She pointed the purple spot ocasionally showing under the canopy of the trees ...We don't want him to be caught in one of my traps.
Satomi looked at Mai's eyes.
But you'll be pretty safe here. All you need to do is not leave this place. As you see, the bears are way far from this place. And are not likely to come near. It's safe.
I need to go to that man...
Can you do it?

Satomi knew Shosuro Mai wasn't a stupid woman and wouldn't risk herself wandering alone around a forest full of beasts and Kaiu traps. But gave a second look over her shoulder before going in the direction of the Unicorn man as fast as she could.
A random Unicorn entering the forest was bad enough, but being Jini... it was even worse. Her friend couldn't even imagine she was in the forest because Hida Natsuko was, as well. Although her main intention was to get the bear before that stupid woman, Satomi wouldn't be sad if her husband's lover got herself killed by an unfortunate hunt accident. He was too compassionate to approve her bad feelings...
She finally crossed his way, at time to prevent his horse to take a mortal path.

The rider moved closer and eventually his hoof beats could be heard by both. He broke into the spot that both of them had occupied and looked down at Satomi from atop his steed. "I heard you were out today in the wilderness and I had to come after you." He said towards the crab woman. Horiuchi Jini dismounted and took the reins of his steed in hand as he walked the few remaining feet towards them. His straw hat, he knocked backward to expose his face fully. "How do you fare?" Again towards the crab woman. "You'll have to introduce me." Indicating the scorpion whom she had moved away from.

Oh you. The kami of the distant lands love you indeed... Do you know you almost lost your horse 2 or 3 times in the last minutes? I'm hunting bears.
She looked back to the place where Mai was, and concluded she couldn't really hear them if they speak in a lower tone.
Of course you want. Well, I wasn't expecting you in the Winter Court, but I am happy to see you. She grinned. You said you came to the forest to see me, but of course the pretty Scorpion is the focus now. She teased.

He took a moment to look behind him, where he had come form and then shrugged. "As always, you are correct. I am beloved of the kami." His cheeky grin is visible as his mustache folds around it. "Though I suppose it was he who bears the real merit here." Patting his horse to indicate the compliment was meant for him. "Bears, though, you say? Bears are not normally this far south are they? I thought they were more of a danger to the north and west." He moved to stand beside her, his fur trimmed cloak fluttering in the light wind. It would seem he will not pursue her baited line about the Scorpion; but then he suddenly does. "Your companion is the focus of the hunt, but you say it's for bears; I wonder in what way you mean." His eyebrows are inquisitive as his golden eyes gaze at her.

I see you are in an excellent humor today, Jini. As you decided to join me in a cold forest instead of take a rest and a bowl of noodles, maybe you wish to join me-us, in our hunt.
Shosuro Mai-san is a playwright, guess what. She writes the type of pillow books that makes the court ladies to feel both scandalized and willing... you know.
She looked down for a moment, and scratched an eyebrow.
I think I'm going to skip explaining why she's here, but in fact, they say that a "golden bear" can be found here. An the daimyo of the Agasha wish it as ingredient. Thanks your gaijin gadget, we just discovered there's in fact, a pack of them. Satomi thought about telling him about Natsuko, but decided to tell things in parts.
That's the summary of my adventure today.

He continued to smile at the things that she said, then when she mentioned the gaijin gadget, he began nodding. "I told you that it would come in handy for you. For looking at far off things, it can't be beat; I've never used better." He stepped up beside her, getting closer; the many trinkets he wore around his neck made a clicking sound as he took the step. "Would you mind terribly if I was to join you in your hunt? I'm sure that I would be of some use, and I've never seen a golden bear before; perhaps I could calm the spirits that would be involved with such a creature." As though an instrument, he plucked the string that was drawn taught across his bow letting a single low thrum enter the air around them for a brief second. His horse stamped once as he did that as though in agreement with him.

You better be, Jini. I was expecting one or two, not five. But, of course, we just need to attract one of them to this path… She waved a hand showing ahead, Where a bear has more chances to fall in a trap than your horse does… and that's…
Satomi's words were interrupted by a strange sound in the forest. Very near.
Satomi glanced at the Unicorn.
Uhn…We can't discard the possibility of other hunters, neh?
Anyway, that sound wasn't exactly human.
You did that, right?

The smile did not fade as his leg moved back, turning his body sideways towards the noise. He put an arrow to his string very quickly. He looked towards the noise, then back at Satomi and shook his head; then he moved his gaze back towards the sound. Then it shifted to look up and down the path she had mentioned as well, trying to spy all the traps she had put down. "I've got your back, as always." He hadn't drawn the arrow back, too many times had he been surprised by a rabbit or something else coming out of the brush that was not worth it; but one couldn't be too careful in unfamiliar lands either.

Satomi looked back from where she asked to the Scorpion woman to stay, but the noise didn't come from there. Then she signaled to her Unicorn friend that they should go ahead deeper in the forest. Covered by him, Satomi advanced, cautious but calm. Jini's arrival would make the hunt a bit easier.
Once again, the noise echoed in the forest. Now, she was sure: it was a chaotic hunting coming in their direction. Cracks and stomps and the sound of a big thing breaking its way...
Exactly what she wanted.
She tightened her grip in the yari, minding it was too early to use the odachi. She prepared to cross the creature's way as it showed, to attract him to a trap.
A flash of gray armor passed by her first. Natsuko probably, but she didn't pay attention to the human more than necessary.
Suddenly, Satomi realized that the beast's sounds were unproportional to a regular bear. A bit too late, maybe.
The cracks of the trees being forced to give passage to a giant creature ceased. As by magic.
She looked up to face the "golden bear" twice her height, in front of her.

Mai had been watching the Kaiu and the dirty Gaijin getting closer with a smirk, mentally writing another chapter in Satomi's book.
Well they look cozy....
Then they started to act odd, and moved closer in.
"Where are they..." she started, putting the viewing object up to look through again...then her eyebrows rose.
"Kami" she swore, starting to move in that direction moving quietly and staying hidden unstill she got closer. She didn't really have a plan, mentally going over what she knew to see what she could do to help.

Of course, Satomi had never seen a Golden Bear before. But, for sure, she had seen a lot of unnatural creatures in her life. All of them as unfriendly as the huge beast in front of her. Though there was none of the filthy sentiment that marked the Shadowlands creatures. Instead, it resembled to Satomi the same raw power when one witnesses an avalanche; the destructive force of the nature, not exactly evil, but deadly as well.
Its roar was deafening as the golden Bear advanced towards them. Before it could reach her head with a powerful strike of its razorbladed paw, Satomi dove towards the bottom parts of its massive body, her yari's edge opening a gap in the furred leg of the magical beast, and burying itself in the ground.
Her intention was only to attract it to a pitfall not far, so she twisted her body to avoid his mortal hug, leaning backwards. Her cape got tangled on the claws of the bear, then was partially ripped off by its fury. Before it was too late, Satomi grabbed her nodachi with two hands and unsheathed it, in a fluid motion twisted over her body to hit the "monster". It seemed to cause little effect, but was enough to free her and the rest of her cape from the beast's claws.
She didn't lose the opportunity, and used the pines around them as leverage, to get impulse and jump high for another strike. She realized, in the middle of the movement, though, the grand finale of her downwards slash would likely to end within a big and undesirable hug bear. Her feet used the beast's body to another impulse, and she got higher, passing over the Golden Bear shoulder and falling not as graciously as she would like, behind it.
When she touched the floor again, she was heavily panting. Oh Great Kami. I'm on the wrong side of the path. Ouch… I'm feeling lucky today, but... She shouted. Don't you like to say hello to Kisada-boy too?
OCC: I'm lame at describing action scenes... ;P

From her hidden point, Mai observed the fighting. She hadn't a clue where Satomi was trying to take the beast, nor what she was doing to it. At this point with 2 samurai verses it, Mai was content to remain hidden and strategise
