It's almost impossible to have a funeral in the Winter Court without it turning into a political event.
Kaiu Shigekazu died trying to alert about the hideous presence of tainted agents within the Castle and their plans. His death served to bring the truth and spare more lives. IN few lines, it was what most of people knew about how the brilliant Kaiu Engineer (though maybe in the last years, more known as General Kaiu Satomi's husband) died.
Not always a Crab has the right to a so sumptous funeral, though.
Wasn't a good surprise to discover she was Satomi's husband's "Voice after death". That's the utter treason Shigekazu could inflict to his spouse, even after death. Satomi surelly regretted the moment she had permitted that woman to get out from that forest alive. And it wasn't about Satomi to "love" her husband. It was about being neglected.
After the part of the funeral that is reserved to the most close persons to the death, the funeral parade finally got to a pavillion, where Satomi could talk with the persons presenting her their feelings. Her clan was supportive in this moment, and she was carrying her on (as the mourning white colors) very well, despite her murder feelings towards Hida Natsuko. The woman had to be taken from the views of everyone, as she was, clearly, most shaken and emotional than Satomi.
That's was the event stealing the attention from everything else in the court this morning.

Moeru arrived at the pavillion, dressed in a stark black kimono with the outline of dragon's embroidered in Gold thread swirling across it. His blindfold, the same green fabric he had always worn. Shinko, was at his side, and dressed better than a servant would be, yet not as well as a samurai. He bowed to the Crab, and stood off to the side, quietly. He had known Shigekazu in what seemed like another life, under different circumstances.
Moeru had only ever been a part of one other funeral in his life, and it had been a poor rehearsal for something as political as this.

Doji Hatosenshi stood, leaning heavily on his walking stick, his elegant and simple kimono hiding the samurai's stance. The previous escapades of duels and night watches had taken their toll on his older body. If his hair was not dyed white, he was certain he'd have seen new grey hairs appear.
The barely concealed anger that Satomi regarded Natsuko with was evident to the perceptive Hatosenshi. A few choice words to a Crane delegate, and Natsuko would now find herself assigned to a Imperial delegation to the Islands of Spice and Silk...a trip that would take several years.

As soon as Satomi noticed the presence of the Togashi Moeru and the Doji Hatosenshi, she asked to servants to make an arrangement to bring both to where she was, ocasionally receiving words of support for her bereavement from the Winter Court attendees.
She should know how "the council" affairs were going, as it could be relevant in the decision of whether her champion would sent her home to an "official mourning period", or she could be allowed to stay in the court.

Arandaru wasn't fond of the funerary processes for they reminded to him past events. One would live with passion and joviality and the other day would he become a stiff husk of sorrow. Even if Satomi was his friend, Arandaru wouldn't have gone. That's why he'd managed to send a letter of condolences to her expressing his sadness. However it was but at the night before that Arandaru's sleep had been troubled. Those last 2 days he'd felt a connection with the realm of the dead that made him shiver. Last night he'd been granted insight as of to a Kitsu sodan senzo's innocence, but in this last night he'd heard a scream. Into his eardrums with a dire portent at hand.
Thus, after deliberation, he'd put on a pale silken lavender kimono with a typical grey high collar. He'd attend as well.
After he arrived at the location he tried to be discreet without much needed salutations. If Satomi would find him, she'd let her know of the news he bore.

Her clan was preparing to keep only the essential representatives in Kyuden Meyo,
taking the most part of the delegation back to Kyuden Hida and travelling south by the end of the day to start all the necessary actions about Sahai's threat. She still wasn't sure if she was included in the new plans.
Thanks for coming, Arandaru-san. She said as soon as they met. People finally started to go away, as other interests and appointments took place. It was relieving for Satomi.
She had a less than blissful marriage, and as most of the Crab samurai do, a spouse death is something you expect to happen anytime. The strange circumstances of how, though, lingered in her mind as an annoying headache, as if...
something else was still out its place.

Arandaru kept his head low. While he disrespected any kind of political "facade" that the etiquette demanded he thought that his feelings couldn't cope with what Satomi was facing.
"Be brave Satomi-san." he needed to be direct. That much he could afford. He didn't know the man, other than the rumor of the couple's marital problems, as the latter would often parade our with his court "debutante". To Arandaru's eyes, he deserved what he got.
"I have some news I am afraid. Regarding your deceased husband Satomi-san." he looked her in the eye.

What? Satomi frowned, taken by surprise.
Tell me, my friend. She guided him to a most private part of the pavillion. They were still on the views of everyone, but she made sure they both were positioned in a way curious people couldn't see their expressions. Of course, if Arandaru was telling her something like this, he should have some serious reasons.
Please.. What else could be worse?

Arandaru carried on with a morbid revelation.
"Last night, I'd heard him screaming across the palace corridors. It was a man's growl. His speech was really non-discernible as it was deep and unnaturally fast. The only words that I could discern was "injustice" and "natsu"..." he said.
"Please do not fret Kaiu Satomi-san. There's been a long thing that you're going through. Do not face this alone." he tried to comfort her.
"Normally no priest of the kami would've been contacted that open by a spirit, and even if this was the case it would be via the rooting chi of a sodan senzo."
For a moment he wondered if kicking Kitsu Seiza's back made him get "in contact" with the sodan senzo's powers...but he quickly discarded the thought in order not to laugh.
Instinctively he knew what was going on. The Shin-Tien-Yen-Wang had disclosed him of a spirit's feelings in order to right an injustice in the very palace of the Empress. And it was true, that the gods wouldn't turn a blind eye into equaling the scales in the august presence of the Chosen of Heavens.
"However, I do not delude myself. I cannot reach for the spirit in the afterlife. What I suggest is that you perform the ceremony as intended but proceed with haste. What I can fathom is that he wishes to contact you, his closest one." he looked at her as if in disbelief and he carried on.
"I can only perform the ritual to summon him, but sadly you might need an individual that is properly attuned to the kami's creation. I'd suggest a monk. I suspect that a monk will be the key in this." he said as the thoughts raced through his mind.

A... spirit... Shigekazu's spirit? Of course, Satomi was shocked. And hell, that son of an eta whore was haunting the castle halls calling the name of his mistress! If he wasn't already dead, this time she'd kill him, for sure!
Anyway... She tilted her head, inhaling deep and calming herself. Something was very wrong and that stupid Kaiu horsehead should be trying to do the right thing, even in his death. Afterall, he died trying to alert about that damned Kitsuki and her minions. She firmed her voice before speaking:
Thank you, Arandaru-san. The Fortunes know how I do praise your friendship. yes, we must do something, and if you can help me, I think I can ask to Togashi Moeru to help us... He's here, somewhere. I'll arrange a meeting.
**A servant went to the Dragon monk to politely ask him to join Satomi and the Death Priest in a private room, one hour later. Anyway, Satomi was politely (as possible) receiving the last expressions of symphaty from the persons who decided to attend her husband's funeral. Her mind, of course, was far away of the words of respect and condolences. She was paranoically looking for a pattern among the persons attending. The taint pattern. Any strange pattern.

Moeru had milled about the pavillion, trying to make sure to not make too much of a commotion surrounding himself. He had always had a deep reverence of the passing from this realm to the next, and wanted to ensure that the focus stayed on that aspect.
AS the servant approached Moeru, he nodded, and spoke simply. "Lead the way, Son of Hida."

Post by Daidoji Kousei on Jan 30, 2014 19:33:00 GMT
Daidoji Kousei was relieved that the funeral was over. His charge had been disorganised as usual and this they had arrived at Winter Court late, and Street The briefest of apologies to Kurohito, Hanashimi had heard about the ceremony and decided they simply must attend despite not having a clue about the recently departed.
Kousei, on the other hand, had heard of Satomi and her husband during his time with the Crab. He was surprised to find that Shigekazu had died here, and more than a little confused. Despite this he left the chasing of rumours to Hanashimi, although he resolved to present his condolences to the Crab general if the opportunity presented itself.
After a short while he saw her standing alone. He drew Hanashimi's attention to it and the courtier bounded across. After listening to the younger man's flowery speech for about five minutes, Kousei felt awkward. As Hanashimi paused to think of another allegory, Kousei muttered "My lady, I am sorry for your loss. He did his duty by the clan." The courtier looked at him in surprise that his normally silent companion had decided to join in the conversation and Kousei cursed inwardly, wondering why he had thought this a good idea.

The Daidoji finally interrupted the endless flow of empty words from his Clanner, and for it she could be glad to him. The Daidoji yojimbo class not only were good and honorable warriors; they also were trained, from the early age, to not kill themselves for being forced to hear such amount of bullshit.
Thank you very much, Daidoji-san Your words truly comfort me. I... I think your face is not totally unknown to me... Have you been on the Wall?

"Hai, General Satomi-sama. I served with a unit of my brothers a few years ago. While I never had the pleasure of fighting alongside you or your husband, I often heard your names mentioned."
He stopped and looked embarrassed. "Please forgive me my bad manners. I am Daidoji Kousei, Hanashimi-sama's yojimbo."

She listened, looking at one, and then to the other:
Hanashimi-san, you have an excellent samurai by your side. Daidoji Kousei left some friends back in the Wall, I've heard. Your name is remembered, Kousei-san.
And just to test the terrain... And maybe, have the pleasure of seeing the governor uncomfortable.
The Honorable Crane Clan is signing a deal with my clan today. Concerning troops of Iron Cranes to be enlisted to help in the Kaiu Wall, among other things. I wonder if we can count with seasoned Daidoji like your yojimbo, Hanashimi-san... I'll ask to your champion to pick valorous and experienced soldiers as you... You know, dire times...
And the idea sounded even better in her mind, after spoken. She observed their reactions.
