As the dust settled, Odai quickly located Kaigen and Gempachi, and resisting the urge to scream out and remove the foul creature's head from his torso, he quickly forced his thoughts past the anger and the pain and moved to more logical lines of thinking.
No doubt everyone in the damn Palace heard that racket...
He made his way cautiously but with haste over the rolling hills of black stone that had formed from the tumultuous debacle that had just gone on in the warehouse, seething at the amount of work he was going to have to put in to rectify the situation here. As if he didn't have enough to deal with at the moment.
It was then that he heard the footsteps rapidly approaching, clearly at least two armored men running down the hallway, and Odai froze. Could someone really have found the source of the noise so quickly? As he was preparing his best lie to stall for time, he was able to breath a sigh of deep relief as Mattori and another of his agents appeared in the doorway, their faces out of breath but plastered with astonishment at what they beheld.
Knowing the men didn't need explanations at the moment, Odai waved them over with gusto, and approached the slowly sinking Kolat agent. "Mattori-san, good, you are here. Quickly, this is man we seek, and as much as it would please me to watch and listen to him slowly suffocate with black stone filling his lungs and eyes, that is not a luxury we can allow ourselves." The ronin and his companion looked suspiciously at Kaigen; their boss was not one to work with people he didn't know regarding such matters, but something about the Yasuki's tone made it clear that they were to get to work, not to ask questions.
They quickly got to work digging him out, with Odai glaring at the Kolat that had caused so much trouble. Oh how he hoped that he would get a chance to... personally question the man, before Hachi lopped his head off. All that would come later, however; they needed to get out of here, and time was still not on their side.

Kaigen was cautiously dressing the lacerations on his arms as he watched the Yasuki's men get to work. He seemed grimly satisfied.
"You know, Yasuki-sama, it is a great shame that I apparently landed so hard on my head. I cannot recall a thing that transpired. Perhaps you could remind me of how we both ended up here? I would hate to think this mess as somehow our responsibility..."

Odai looked back to the Phoenix, and gave what could only be described as a cheeky grin. "Why, my dear Shiba-san, we were chasing the man you desired to apprehend through the basement, and as he tried to ambush us, it was only through your strength and athleticism that we were able to catch him." Mattori looked up, with a quizzical look on his fate, though the Yasuki absently gave him a wave returning him to work.
"He attacked me, almost taking my eye in the process, but you tackled him to the floor and beat him into submission, not only taking him alive for questioning but potentially saving my life in the process." He gave Kaigen a bow, and flashed him a surreptitious wink. "I owe you my life, and the Yasuki family owes you as well, for your indispensable aid in catching this traitor to the Empire."

"Far be it from me to argue with you, Yasuki-sama."
Kaigen carefully removed a splinter of obsidian from a gash on his arm and flicked it away.

"You are a paragon of wisdom, my dear Phoenix," he replied, a slight smirk on his face. Noting that his compatriots had mostly excavated their quarry, he gestured to Kaigen, and reached down to assist pulling the Kolat out of the all-consuming pit of obsidian that still was attempting to claim his life. With a tug, the man's broken body pulled free, an evil rushing noise filling the void lift in the mound of dark stone as they quickly drew weapons to make sure Gempachi didn't make any more escape attempts.
"Well, shall we escort this man back to the custody of your superiors, Shiba-san? I'm sure Lord Hachi-dono will be... ecstatic at this development in the investigation." While he still put forth a visage of friendly congratulations, it was very clear that the Yasuki governor didn't wish to spend a moment longer than necessary here, especially with the Imperial Legion involved.

"But of course. I imagine that loud noise will require the uninterrupted work of the Kaiu and Yasuki to deal with... I would not wish to impede their efforts."
Kaigen seized the broken Gempachi by the kimono and bodily hoisted him up onto his shoulders [OOC: Go Water 5!]. The man groaned in agony, and Kaigen reflected that his injuries were probably not helped by the treatment.
Good.
"Come along, you worthless tick on a boar's nose. Matsu-san is waiting for us, and I find it bad form to keep an impatient young Lioness waiting."

OOC: @odai @kaigen Depending on the means used, you'll have different information from Gempachi, the kolat agent. Also, about the "incident" in the warehouse, some effort might be employed to avoid honor loss and possible sanctions. Warehouse incident: Diplomacy roll against TN 10 (your usual distinctions can be used here). Extra help: Bribery: this method will add 1 point to your rolls of diplomacy. Bribery cost: 5 favors= 1 bribe point. "Dishonorable" characters can buy "bribe points" per 3 favors each. Disclaim all participation: this method will add 1 point to your roll. Honor point cost: 5 favors= 1 point. "Hero of the people" characters can buy extra "honor points" per 3 favors each. However, "Yasuki" characters, due being the responsible for the warehouse, pay 7 favors per 1 honor point in this matter. Questioning the Kolat agent: Intimidation roll against TN 10 (your usual distinctions can be used here), however you can match your methods (and distinctions) if you choose to question the NPC together. However, the initiator point is valid only once if this method is used. Extra help: Torture: dishonorable characters can choose to torture the kolat agent and gain 1 extra point expending 3 favors. Honorable amnesty: a character can promise to get amnesty to the kolat agent and get means to free him in exchange of the information. It will automatically get Gempachi's cooperation; however, it can involve further complications as the story goes. Every extra point beyond the TN will get extra information from the kolat agent. The gathered information will be delivered to the players by PM so the characters can RP their newly acquired knowledge as they see fit. The favors can be gifted to The Storyteller. Please don't forget to inform your rolls here along with the amount of gifted favors and their use (Torture, Bribe, Disclaim), if any, in your RP posts.

OOC: I guess I'll just do my rolls and we'll see what we get? I'm not sure how much time I'll have to post tonight and tomorrow so I'd rather just get the rolls in so we can move the arc along and people aren't waiting on us.
Warehouse Incident: Odai will be using every resource at his disposal to cover up as many of the incriminating details as possible.
Air 5 + Initiator + Governor + Yasuki Merchant + Soul of Doji + Bribe 2 (Sent 6 favors) = 11.
Questioning the Prisoner: Given his more personal vendetta against the Kolat, as well as his belief that his less desirable methods produce more legitimate results, Odai will use his influence to gain access to the prisoner after the Legion has questioned him and "turn the screws," so to speak.
Air 5 + Initiator + Yasuki Merchant + Governor + Soul of Doji + Torture 7 (Sent 21 favors) = 16

ooc:
Warehouse Incident: Kaigen will assiduously stick to his "I have no idea what you're talking about, I was busy fighting for my life, and look, we caught the guy!" defense.
Air 1 + Initiator (I guess we get this?) + Gunso (just doing my job, was a bit busy) + Disclaim All Responsibility (Hero of the People sends 24 favors)= 11
Questioning the Prisoner- Kaigen isn't going to bother. His job was catching the guy, and he leaves questioning to those more suited for it.

Kousei paused, and thought. The man in front of him was directly opposed to both the kami and the new Toturi dynasty, implying that they were oppressive and corrupt. But the way of the samurai was to serve, and this challenge to honour could not stand. He took a deep breath.
"Asahina Gonhiro-san, you are a traitor to the Empire and a disgrace to the Crane. You are also impuning my honour with your attempt at recruiting me to your side. So that you may save face, rather than execute you now or contacting your superior to demand your seppuku, I challenge you. I shall make arrangements with the daimyos of both our families. You may nominate your champion."

POSTING AS ASAHINA GONHIRO, KOLAT RECRUITER
"Shame"...said the Asahina healer as he coughed once more in his handkerchief. "It's a shame to notice that we've reached an impasse Daidoji Kousei-sama. While I understand your predicament, I assure you that your valid protests reach over to the proper ears." he said with a nod. "I trust you don't merely wish to execute me right on the spot and empty handed. Hai?" he said with a stern yet serious demeanor. "That would harm you immensely. What do you think would Doji Aoshi do, if he learned that you've managed to strangle a fellow pacifist clansman empty-handed?" he produced an ironic smile. "Would that be proper of the protector of the Doji? Certainly not!" he put his front foot to gain leverage as he tried to stand once more. His muscles quite tense from the sitting position on the room's floor. "Now, now Kousei...son, I assure you that I won't be troubling you with my presence any more. Let all your 'arrogant' thoughts aside child." keeping eye contact. "You may prove yourself in a duel versus a more competent adversary, one that we will choose wisely." his eyes searching reaching for Kousei's very soul. "I wouldn't perform any foolish act if I were you. The estates are brimming with our influence..." the floor trembled slightly, as if some tremors were coming from the palace's basement. "You may exit your fine room. The guard has let you slip unnoticed. But why would you do that? You respect authority." he said as he stood in the open slid door. "No no...ever respectful" he muttered as he left the room.
((OOC: Kousei-san, if you wish to attack and chop the Asahina into pieces feel free to do so, and I will edit the whole post.))

Kousei watched the old man leave, fighting down the the rage that was growing within him. It was important to try and keep a cool head - he knew that between the trial, his challenge and Aoshi's manipulations, he was going to have to struggle very hard over the next few days to stay alive. He didn't fear death, but the information he possessed was valuable - there was something rotten eating away at the heart of his clan, and he wanted to see it torn out.
He sat on the floor cross legged. In the background his guard continued to snore. It was time to think.
