The dragon led Satomi down a long hall through the guest quarters of the dragon embassy. At the very end of the hall she saw a pile of furniture. The young man showed her to the last door, near the furniture, "he is waiting for you".
Behind the door she finds the room lit by a single candle. Te was sitting on the only piece of furniture left in the spacious guest room, a thin tatami mat. "How may I help you Satomi-san?"

Satomi slowly kneeled before the Dragon monk. Although in her knees she kept her dignity. Her tone was serious and she didn't lose time to tell the reason of her sudden visit to his quarters: I seek your help, Te-san. I discovered that the Bayushi Izo we saw today is not the true Bayushi Izo. I've noticed a strange black film in his eyes earlier during the duel. His behavior towards Utaku-sama was odd as well. Izo-san and I frequented the same dojo and he always respected the elders' experience, but in the duel he seemed to do the contrary. Then I decided to visit him and see what was going on... I questioned him some things only him and I could know... and he failed in every test.
I usually would ask to my clan's shugenja to help, but I fear we don't have anyone as strong as him to contain "him" while I try to discover what happened to Izo. Perhaps I could have some use of skilled shugenja but actually there are few I can really rely upon... I'd do anything to save Bayushi Izo's life, if it's still possible. You helped me when few could believe me... It's the second time I try to capture an important person of my clan: few would help me do it as you did. Knowing that this favor was huge, Satomi added. We may be talking about enemies powerful than you and I, but I am sure we shouldn't cause panic in the castle. Bayushi Izo is a friend of Dragon and I was said to be friend of Dragon too... Our clans have a strong alliance so, if not for me alone, do it for the friendship of our clans.

"I'm sure Tsuruchi Kasumi is both compassionate and has political feeling, Yasuki-sama," Rokuro said, "from what I could see she only had a lack of experience in unarmed combat and when she saw the other teams, she assumed a full attack was needed where perhaps a more guarded attack would have been more prudent. But I'm sure we can mitigate any problems which might arise from this issue. Of all clans, don't the Lion appreciate a well executed attack that seals victory the most."
The last was a retorical question of course and while he was sure the Lion were more than capable of harbouring grudges, he was also sure that they would see reason, or at least the Ikoma and the Akodo would.

The Emerald Champion wasn't surprised that the Mantis diplomat hurried in defense of his clanmate. In the case she wins the position, her political skills will be constantly put on test... and she'll not have you to fix any misunderstandings, so I hope you are right.

"I'm sure," Rokuro said, "she's very politically aware for a Tsuruchi. Probably her years as my yojimbo have given her some appreciation of what a court looks like. I mean, it's one of the better positions for a bushi to learn about the courts. You can be there, see it all, learn, but you're not responsible. Besides, she will have advisors and a staff and all that I assume. Just like all the other jeweled champions."

After checking up on her husband and her new son, Kasumi requested some paper and ink and went to a task she'd rather not do: writing to Kitsu Hiraku to apologise without aggravating them even more. Luckily she was good at writing letters, although this one did take a while to put together just so.
Following the events of earlier today I would like to apologise for my forceful attack during the tournament of the Amethyst championship. I followed up on your attack on my group with an attack on your group which was I believe of comparable strength. I had however forgotten to take into consideration that you as contestant in the championship had to come on the foreground even though you are also a man of peace. I offer my sincere apologies and I hope there will be no further tensions between ourselves, our families or our clans on this issue.
Tsuruchi Kasumi
It took her three tries to get the calligraphy correct, as she considered this a very important letter. She knew she was still in the running to become the Amethyst champion and she'd rather not start her tenure with a problem with the Lion clan. And even if she didn't win, she still needed to work with the Lion as Emerald magistrate.
