"Of course, Noroko san, you will be the first one I talk to if I hear anything!" He bows his head.
"Of course. Please, sleep well." His karo bows her head.
As she departs, she is stopped in the hallway out of hearing distance from the Asako Daimyo by a Shiba yojimbo, one of Chisato's closest guards. "You know... my mother is a prominent nokodo, Ikoma sama..."

Noroko blinks at the Shiba for a moment, but then assumes a sly expression and bows to him. "I'm surprised Chisato-sama has not taken advantage of her services, Shiba...?" she leaves the question hanging in the air, making it clear she's asking for his name. ***
After receiving it, she makes her way down to her small quarters, writing a second letter to the Ikoma Spymaster with the new information she obtained from Chisato, including that she'd be heading to the Imperial City with his entourage. Sume-sama had taught her long ago that the key to good intelligence was taking advantage of opportunities as they arose, rather than trying to make elaborate plans in advance. Given a choice, associating with the Phoenix--the clan of the hated Shiba Aikune--wouldn't be her preference, but she'd learned to master her emotions when necessary. And Chisato, well, 95% of the time he was exactly what he seemed, and she couldn't help liking the hapless daimyo a bit. It was the other 5% that she had to watch out for.

The following afternoon, another letter in the obnoxiously unemotional style of Chisato's is hand delivered to Noroko by the Shiba guard, Shiba Odo.
Ikoma Noroko san, Librarian of the Ikoma Libraries
I have learned something dire. Satomi san says that Kuon sama has had a child. I need to investigate this before we make our recommendation to the Empress. The letter to the Imperial Advisor has been sent already. I will try to talk to the Shogun soon.
Asako Chisato, Daimyo of the Asako, First of his name.
Shiba Odo stands and watches her read the note, waiting till she is done, "I would rather this letter not get into the wrong hands, Noroko san. By the way, who is your lord so that the Nokodo knows who to negotiate with?" He gives a small smile, damn if these guys wern't persistent.

Noroko stands there and reads the letter to herself before letting Shiba Odo see her turn it to ash in the brazier heating her room. "I assume you know the contents?" she asks the ever-present yojimbo, smiling at him. "I'm surprised Bayushi-sama is even willing to speak to him. Let alone tell him something that momentous."
She nods her head toward the brazier and frowns, then looks back at Odo and speaks in a worried voice, letting her emotions play visibly on her face. "Should I be concerned that she is playing him? You know he believes everything he is told. And she is now a Scorpion with a reason to hold a grudge." She pauses for a second, then adds in a slightly softer voice, "I serve Ikoma Sume."

"I... am not going to talk about her. Know that the Shiba are watching her very carefully." He bows to her, "Thank you for your time, we look forward t negotiating with your lord."
