Crab party players Players already in the main room, be welcome to compliment one of the hosts of the event as Satomi or Odai passes! I'd like to talk with everyone if possible. As a general reminder, mainly for the newcomers, it's an open thread, and you can jump in easily; we were assuming you got an invitation somehow.

rokuganee2.proboards.com/post/582Dear fellows, let's make the hustle! In order to not over extend the party thread, in a few posts from now, the main attraction will take place and then, a bit more of partying and ... afterhours pleasures aside, we can have a new day with new adventures. I hope this small switch can make your character sit by the side of a new and interesting character! That's what the parties are for!

I thought I should just casually mention OOC that giving someone a weapon as a gift is generally considered an insult in Rokugan....

In general, the more practically useful the gift, the less, ah... acceptable it is...

Agreed. It is a statement in the rokugani culture. Though, even in the cannon everyone does it all the time...

What can one say? It is widely known that AEG storyline team isn't as familiar with Rokugan as the fans are!

Though I was wondering why nobody mentioned it sooner, Katsuro... It wouldn't be me pointing out, for sure... Snap! We almost made it go unnoticed! Grr!

He's actually right though...it's been in the roleplay books for some time that giving a weapon as a gift is considered an insult because it's implying that either his lord cannot provide for him or he cannot defend himself

I suppose its value as an heirloom and historical artifact could offset the practicality of the gift.
Now, giving the Empress *food*...that's another matter entirely

It's not food, Kimiko. It's powdered pleasure.

I had powdered pleasure once. We Americans call it "Fun Dip".

well, good to know that weapons are bad. I totally had a plan to give my Bo to the empress as a sign of my desire to strive forward in peace.
Guess that would be in really bad taste.

Don't worry Moeru. Every clan distasted her in a manner. After this court, Tsudao ordered a time warp and got herself killed just to not bear another kitsch-crass court again.

Eh. I would suggest that the idea of a weapon also depends on the significance of it. A weapon used by an ancestral hero is much less insulting then a brand new katana.

Inasmuch as Hatosenshi is trying to make himself look good... It's true that the real value of a gift comes from its personal significance to the recipient or the giver. You can give a sword but it can't just be any sword.
