"You killed her," Kasumi finished the sentence, "it's too bad, because she could have given some extra information." Not that the testimony of a geisha was all that important compared to that of a family daimyo, but the information she could give might point her towards other questions she should ask the more important people.

"I haven't found him, but some samourai of the legion are looking at a trapdoor in the kitchen," Kasumi said to Satomi. It was something she had heard from the kitchen staff when she had popped in for some food. "So Reiha-sama confined you to your quarters," she continued, "and you got out and went after her, correct?"

"I did. I can't believe I did that... I mean, I've never..."

Scholars, Kasumi thought. While she wasn't one of those berserkers who didn't like anything but killing things, she knew that it was necessary at times. She had killed those bandits without a second thought and if she had been there, she would have tried to capture the woman alive, but if not possible, she would have killed her. "What happened next," she asked, trying to get the man back on track.

"I fought the pain splitting my head to see if she was alright, I don't even know who she was, I was just trying to stop her so I could question her about her kolat involvement, I swear it."
"Then when I got to her... I collapsed. Then I woke up in here."

Satomi kept her face.
Yes, I did. I went after her. I found some corridors unprotected. I talked to a Crane girl who'd seen a "female silhouette" running through the corridors to the Champion's room. The place was quite crowded by guards, while other points were completely empty. I am sure it was caused on purpose. Then I saw Reiha-sama, attacking Asako Chisato, in one of those empty places... I interposed myself between both, and parried her blade… but it didn't stop her.
She managed to get rid of us and reached the highest floor. The honor guard was guarding the place, as a "giant" monk named Te. This man had saved Nozomi's life in the day before… But I' shouldn't ramble. Satomi grimaced. I saw Reiha-sama being disarmed by the Dragon monk, and Daidoji Kousei and her fought over a knob that would open a door… to the bridal chamber, that's it. Once again, Reiha's willpower won over any obstacle and even over any reasoning about her pregnancy or the risks of her activities… She went through the door, followed closely by Daidoji Kousei. I chose to interrupt Kaneka's rest and the guards followed my command, and we witnessed Reiha-sama using a broken tanto to delve it into Nozomi's chest.
I got my champion by her clothes and threw her in the futon. She was bleeding badly. Maybe having a miscarriage, I thought, I was concerned about that, and it seems something was confirmed later. She seemed pretty in her senses at the moment I looked into her eyes, I tell you. Satomi shrugged, then remained thoughtful for a moment. Then asked.
I've heard a strange rumor today… That my friend Nozomi is tainted. Is it true, Tsuruchi-san? because I tell you... NOzomi made all tests and even one day before the wedding she was checked. She was taintless.

"Shiba-gunso?"
"Yes, Matsu-san?"
"Would not bringing a lantern with you have been the wiser course of action?"
Kaigen stopped, then turned.
"No. The intruder had no light source with him. Let your eyes adjust, stop talking, and maybe, just maybe, we won't give our presence away before we find where this passage leads."

Odai sat in his small office he kept in the Black Crane Palace, barely able to contain his frustration as he came up with yet another dead end. Weeks had passed, and yet there was no sign of the man he sought, even with all of his resources, but now that he had to split his attention between both that and the fiasco that had been his new cousin's wedding? It seemed as though his tasks were only becoming more insurmountable as the damage control he was being called on to perform piled on.
Poring over the most recent note from Mattori once again, he gave a small sigh; oh how he wished that the ronin could work alongside Odai, but alas, here, in view of his Clan and currently the rest of the empire, it was better if that particular ally remained in the shadows. The man did his best works in the less reputable corners of land anyway, especially concerning these matters.
A gentle knock came at the door and startled the young governor, for which he cursed himself; it did not do well to be caught off guard in times such as these. Composing himself, he called the guard in. "Yasuki-sama," the young man assigned to guard his office nervously stated, and Odai was again bitterly reminded that most of his best men had been called in to lock down those under suspicion for the attack on Kaneka and his bride. "There is a Kano Genjo requesting an audience, on official business." The guard looked nervous, as though giving such little information would result in punishment, and Yasuki Odai suppressed a laugh.
"Thank you, Hiruma-san" Odai replied, noting the young guard's armor and attempting to put a touch of kindness in his tone over the exhaustion that was constantly at his heels. "Give me a moment to compose myself and send him in, and take care to make sure we are not disturbed. I anticipate this shall not be a particularly happy conversation."

"I have heard the same rumours, Kaiu-sama," Kasumi said, "but I've not received any confirmation. I hope it's just that, rumours, but I was planning on talking to the Kuni later today, as they are the experts. One more question: the monk told me that there was another woman in the room. Have you seen someone, and if so, can you maybe tell me who she is, or give a description?"

Uhn... woman? Yes, when everyone arrived, I saw Sunetra-sama, and some other female figures... Sorry, I'm not sure about anybody else's features. I was focused in the matter at hand, dealing with the Shogun, Kaneka-sama and the Emerald Champion. You can understand it overwhelmed me. She said simply.
But you meant that someone else could be the responsible for getting Nozomi tainted?

"That's what Te said," Kasumi replied, "he said there was a woman present during the attack, but he couldn't remember who it was, so I hoped you had more information. He also said he felt something evil, but he couldn't be more specific. While I'm sure monks and shugenja are trained to see and feel things we bushi can't, I'm not sure about his statement. It's the first time I hear about someone who could just feel the taint like that in another person. It could be useful on the Wall though. And while I could have everybody present tested by the Kuni, it might give political issues."

I absolutely understand it, Tsuruchi-san. Now, there's anything else you wish to know from me?

"No, Kaiu-sama, I think this is all," Kasumi said, standing up, "I have some other people to see, so maybe I come back to clarify some issues, but for now I'm done. If there is anything, don't hesitate to contact me." She bowed and took her leave.

Another one who was knocked out. It seemed to Kasumi that she would have to question the victim, although she had hoped to avoid it. Well, if there is one person who would know what happened. "Thank you, Asako-sama," she said, standing up, "that's all for now. I might come back should I have more questions after questioning other people, but for now I'm done. If you have anything, don't hesitate to contact me."
She bowed and took her leave as she had a lot still to do.

"Oh... is that all? Very well." He bows his head to her. "I'm surprised I thought there would be more..."
He leans forward, suddenly concerned, "Hey, they aren't going to ask me to seppuku are they?"
