Chisato sat in his room at the Yasuki palace, reading and rereading his own notes on scorpion lineages. His karo sits across from him, silent now after nearly a second full hour of her subtle yet direct chastisement of his actions. Most of it he heard, and agreed, and yet still he could foresee no other way things could have progressed after the carnage. He was the first to break the silence.
"Theres been no reply?"
She gives a sad smile, "No, its too soon to tell of course, but no replies to either of your requests to meet with Bayushi san or Daidoji san. I think they are all choosing to heed the wishes of the emerald champion.
"And the crab in general are likely stalling all of your communications at Kuon's request, I don't think you made many friends in the crab or scorpion today... this will make your marriage prospects more difficult... I think, its too soon to tell, like I said."
He sneezes, "Oh enough about the damn marriages. I get it already." He puffs himself up some and gets a stern look on his face, "Let them be upset, I did the honorable thing." He shrinks down some as he thinks, "I just don't know if it was the right thing."
To that the karo has no answer, after a long silence she says, "You were not the only one to think so, Asako sama. Perhaps one of them will call on you?"
"Oh... well, I suppose?" His thoughts drift to the jade magistrate, and to Noroko. He says nothing about her to his karo.

Kasumi had been wondering about something since the trial the day before and she knew there was only one person who would be able to help her. So she had made her way to the quarters of the Asako daimyo and requested a meeting. It didn't take long before she was admitted. "Asako-sama," she said with a bow, "my apologies for my sudden request to see you, but I have a question I think you can help me with. As you know I'm married with a Hida and I was wondering how close my husband is to the clan champion. I don't want my children to become pawns in a battle for the clan leadership and you are the expert on genaeology."
She didn't wanted to know this as a magistrate, but just as a concerned mother and she hoped he could give her the answer she was looking for.

He smiled to her, not only did he have someone else to talk to besides his insufferable karo, but it was about something he knew very well indeed.
"By the fortunes, yes! I would love to help."
His karo steps over and hands Chisato his tome, he flips open a few pages looking for relevant data as she asks, "Would you care for some tea?"
Chisato interrupts in his usual style, "Its the empress' favorite blend."

"Some tea would be very nice, thank you," Kasumi said with a nod to the Karo. "So I assume you will be going back to your own provinces soon," she asked while she waited for Chisato to find back the relevant section in his book.

The karo makes herself scarce as they continue in small talk.
"I do indeed look forward to the prospect of home, but I abhor travel. Home is safe, theres never any drama there." he says with a small sad smile.
He skims over the relevant information adding, "And you? What is next for you?"

"I don't know," Kasumi replied, "I was sent here to investigate some riots, but I got caught up in the special investigations. I assume either Yasuki Hachi-sama himself or someone high up in the Emerald magistrates will decide where I'll go. But it gives me the chance to see the empire."

He chuckles, "Done that... all I learned was that its best to stay at home, where its safe."
He sniffles some, and wipes his nose with a silk cloth, "He who was once Hida Takeshi san," he reads from his book some, "can trace his line back many generations to a ronin in the 10th century, who performed a 20 goblin winter to earn his clan mon." He looks up at her, "Not even close to kuge material, Tsuruchi san." he smiles to her.
Tea was then placed before them both, and poured.

"Thank you, Asako-sama," Kasumi said, relief showing through her samoerai mask, before she took a sip of her tea. It was indeed very good as he had said. "I really should get myself some tea while I'm here," she added, "the crab have some of the best teas in the empire. Probably that Yasuki governor, Odai wasn't it, knows where to get some. Yasuki generally do."

"A crab governor? Yes I suppose he would, being a governor and all." He blinks some, not used to considering the human element behind a name and being rather clueless. He holds up a hand and turns his face, feeling a sneeze coming. Instead his eyes water and nothing comes of it.
He turns back to her and sips his tea, "That investigation of yours was really something incredible, Tsuruchi san."

"It was quite difficult," Kasumi said, "there was little time and every time I spoke to someone, it seemed that it got more and more complicated. As a first investigation is was one to remember. I've already been thinking on some poems to write about it."

He blinks at that a few times, "This was your first investigation? Forgive my shock, why would they have asked you to do this? When last I was on the case looking into kolat corruption, the magistrate I worked for committed seppuku."

"Probably a case of availability," Kasumi said, "I was the only emerald magistrate available. Also I'm quite familiar with the Crab clan, as you know. And while it might have been clear to you and Kaiu ... I mean, Bayushi Satomi that there was Kolat involvement, the fact that this information wasn't shared with the people in charge of the castle meant they might not have been fully aware of the situation. I'm not saying this as critisism, as it's quite logical to be careful when dealing with these conspiracies and you have been forthcoming to me about things, but if for instance the Emerald Champion had been aware of the situation, he could have taken some extra measures to solve the situation in a less dramatic situation. Although I think that Crane playwright who was at the trial wouldn't have like that. I think it's one of the few people who is pleased with how things turned out."

"Indeed. I am... horrified by the actions of Kousei san, and disturbed by the reactions of Kuon sama that night... so much happened that did not have to come to pass."
He shakes his head, "How did your investigation into the riots go?"

"I actually never did those," Kasumi said, "I arrived here and Yasuki Hachi-sama put me on the attack on Yasuki Nozomi-sama. I'm not sure if I still have to investigate the riots, or if Crab clan magistrates are going to take over that investigations. I'll have to ask and if not, I'll probably be reassigned. Maybe to the Asako provinces."

"I certainly hope that the riots which killed many are treated with as much scrutiny as Reiha sama's." He finishes his cup of tea and gives her a quick glance, "If you do end up working in my lands you may never wish to leave! I long for a return home. Very relaxing, never too much chaos and drama."
He gives a content sigh, "Yes, I think I will be going home soon."
