Rules for alters:
1. Must be of the same clan as your main character, or a ronin; 2. His/her distinctions and rings must be stated in the alter's signature 3. Maximum 2 alters per player 4. Choose the rings and distinctions as if creating another new regular character (800 starting glory points). However, those points will not be credited in your account, this number serves for reference purposes only.
How it works: 1. In order to have an avatar for your alter, you must PM the admin with a link for the the picture, his/her name, and concept (e.g. Kakita Mayume, Diplomat and Artisan) as well the informations of the alter's signature. 2. All rewards earned by an alter go for the main character, including Glory points, Awards etc.
Remember, you can not have multiple accounts in this forum, so if you wish to experiment with other characters than your main one, this is the way to go.

1. Do we create the character on the biography index? 2. How would we switch between the alter and our main character? 3. Would there be any way to advance the alter? 4. Would we be about to do threads where the main character and the alter interact?
I already have multiple ideas running their way through my head but I don't want to make any faux pas.

1. No, you put your alter bio in this thread. So we all know it's an alter. 2. There's a plugin called Alter, which basically permits to swap your avatar picture (you can see it in action in the threads when Kanehitsu RPed The Empress Tsudao in the Winter Court). So after PMing me the picture of your alter, I'll make sure your account have an alter. You'll be able to switch the character when needed. However... It's not perfect, and it doesn't support distinctions/or their own items. That's why you need to make sure the alter statuses are visible in the alter's signature (it has its own signature). 3. NO. All points and awards etc, go for the main character. So, if you think your alter will be very active and maybe overcome the main character, you may consider swapping them. Unfortunately the tools available are not perfect, and having multiples accounts is a bit problematic. 4. Not a problem, you'll see you can switch the avatar's picture.

That's how an average alter looks like. The dropdown menu to swap characters will appear by the side of "Create Post" Button. The name will link for his/her bio post.

Bayushi Sotaro aka Keitaro aka Teishu
Distinctions: Bayushi Saboteur * Sensei * Kensei * Forbidden Knowledge: Underground * Forbidden Knowledge: Lying Darkness * True Love * Dishonored (Teishu) * Beautiful
Rings: Fire 4 * Void 3 * Water 5 * Air 3 * Earth 1Age: 49 years Appearance: 5,11 ft (1,8m) 172 lbs (78kg) Physically fit for a man of his age. Dark green-eyes and even in his age, a very good looking appearance. Sotaro: Long loose hair with gray streaks, fanged mempo Keitaro: Dark Long hair (no gray streaks) held in ponytail, beard, no mask. Teishu: Dark long hair (no gray streaks), red cloth as mask covering nose, mouth and chin. Looks younger than he is. Parents: Ryobe and Masako, both still alive, living in Ryoko Owari. Son of Bayushi Ryobe and Masako (née Shosuro), and twin of Aishun, his late sister, Keitaro attended the Red Crane Dojo where was taught in the ways of a Bayushi Saboteur, while his equally beautiful sister was sent to Hidden Moon Dojo to be a taught as Yojimbo. In his youth days, shortly after his gempukku, Keitaro witnessed the Scorpion Coup, then the Clan War, and like many other Scorpion, remained loyal to his clan. He had no ambitions but serving his clan, and being a talented young saboteur, was almost often involved in some sort of task, when and where it was needed. As a political arrangement that would benefit the clan financially, Keitaro accepted to marry a highborn Kaiu woman accused of military crimes in her clan. He married to Reiko and she went live into the Scorpion. He never particularly liked her, as she was often unnecessarily cruel, nor thought she was attractive, although it wasn't a problem because he soon discovered she wasn't fond of men either. They soon reached an agreement where they could pursue different love interests in other beds. Meanwhile, Keitaro's twin sister Aishun became yojimbo to Bayushi Yojiro for a short period, however it didn't ended as expected: she fell in love by her charge and gave him a child, a little girl named Sai. Although the family knew it all along, Yojiro was an important piece of the Rokugani's political puzzle to marry for love, but Aishun didn't care. However while Yojiro was rising in importance and earning the trust of the Empire, the Scorpion decided to get rid of his inconvenient lover. Aishun was poisoned and died a few days after giving birth her baby. Those events happened shortly before the Exile of the Scorpion. Yojiro was ordered to stay in Rokugan, and knowing about his daughter, asked Aishun's brother to keep the baby in safety. Keitaro proposed to his wife assuming the baby as theirs and return to the Kaiu, so they could stay in Rokugan. Using all possible political leverage they still retained and counting on Reiko's useful military talent, Bayushi Keitaro publicly renounced his name as Bayushi and became Kaiu Keitaro, husband to Taisa Kaiu Reiko. Sai became Satomi, their little daughter. Using his talents and living in the Yasuki provinces, Keitaro made many friends, some of them Mantis. That's how he met Moshi Eisho, the only woman he loved and love until that day. Eisho didn't care for the fact Kaiu Keitaro was already married, the matriarchal traditions of the Moshi family would deal well with the absence of a true husband. Reciprocated in his love, they had a son, Yoru. Keitaro spent his time between Crab and Mantis provinces and his double family life, tending both his true son and his niece disguised as daughter. Keitaro often returned to serve his clan in what was needed, even while the clan returned from the Exile and Yojiro became the Scorpion Champion. Although it wasn't his main occupation, Keitaro also served as spy in a few opportunities. He always expected that the real father of his daughter was to claim her, but Yojiro never did, for reasons unknown to him. As the time passed, Keitaro just wished it to never happen, as Satomi was as his own child. He knew about the new criminal activities of his spouse Reiko, and sometimes used her links with some juzimai to Scorpion's interests. Amongst the juzimai and the underworld of smugglers in the Mantis Ports, he was known as Teishu, a "Master and Host of the Tea Ceremony". Everything changed when Satomi discovered about the criminal activities her parents were involved in. He wasn't at home when she inquired Reiko about it, but timely came over to prevent Reiko to kill Satomi. He almost failed to his task of protect his champion's child, so afterr that, and knowing Reiko and Satomi grew resentment against each other, he started to harbor a plan to kill Reiko without losing his undercover identity. However, things went out of control when Satomi and her friend Izo started to investigate Reiko and him. His spouse was killed, and had to flee from Crab, accused of a several crimes as extorsion, smuggling and so on. For the Empire he was a now ronin, but for his true clan all he did was to cover his identity as Infiltrator. He returned to his clan with a new name: Sotaro. His "Teishu" persona was used less often now, only when convenient to the Scorpion plans. The bonds between Keitaro and his niece/daughter never ceased, and he contacted her when he thought it was safe to do. When Yojiro retired, Satomi was pregnant to Hida Kuon, at the time only the brother of the Crab Champion. Satomi asked his help to conceal the baby and keep the boy in a safe place, as the Crab was facing dire moments, first with the Second Yasuki War and then with the Battles for the Lost Towers, which destroyed part of the Kaiu Wall. Keitaro complied and took the little baby with him (quite a practiced foster father) while she resumed her duties as shireikan. With his two children now grown up, he felt much linked with the young baby Takai. Though, when Yojiro retired, Keitaro felt he should ask why he preferred to let his only child grow within the Crab and choose Bayushi Sunetra as his successor. They had an arguing, and Keitaro went to present himself to the new Champion, Sunetra. He told her about the mission of his lifetime, letting her know about Satomi and Takai. Sunetra showed some awe with this story, and promised him she would take care of Satomi from now on, as her own sister. He couldn't fathom whether it was truth or not, but he did believe his new champion. The Champion asked Keitaro to serve the clan once more before his own well deserved retirement. And he gladly accepted, becoming one of the sensei at the Red Crane Dojo. It doesn't prevent him to attend other matters if necessary.

name: Yoritomo Rokuro
Rings: Earth: 5 Water: 3 Air: 4 Fire: 3 Void: 1
Glory:
Distinctions: Yoritomo Courtier, court karo, master of ceremonies, beautiful, master of games, ancestor (Yoritomo)
Appearance: Age: 32 Height: 1m75 Weight: 70kg Eyes: brown Hair: black Distinctive Marks and Items: He's a very beautiful man and always dressed just right, often in very expensive kimonos. Family: Yoritomo Hiroto (father) Yoritomo (nee Moshi) Akane (mother) Attitude/Personality: He has a bit of a grudge on some people of his clan who think that if you are seasick, you can't do much in the Mantis, especially since he feels he has done more than most of them for the clan. Luckily he met many Mantis (mostly Tsuruchi and Kitsune) who don't care about ships. But despite that he is still very much a Mantis and will do what he can to further the clan's agenda, although he doesn't normally goes for the traditional Yoritomo way of trade and intimidation, but relies on more traditional ways.
History: Yoritomo Rokuru was born to a Mantis ship captain and his Moshi navigator. Unfortunately for him he turned out to be susceptible to seasickness even on the calmest of seas. This made him a bit of an outcast in the Yoritomo and also the reason why he didn't saw his parents a lot. He started roaming the island, often playing go and shogi with a minor diplomat. When the time came for him to start at a dojo, this diplomat pulled some strings to get him assigned to the Yoritomo courtier school.
There he blossomed, taking to the lessons with a vengeance, to show that he could be important to the clan even if he couldn't stand being on a boat. He went for the more conventional diplomacy instead of the merchant diplomacy used by most Yoritomo courtiers, although he did learn the basics of commerce. But he didn't want to do too much of that as it would involve boat trips. He quickly learned things like how to do a tea ceremony and he already knew go and shogi quite well, also something important in court.
After his gempukku he was assigned to a minor court in Phoenix lands, where he performed quite well (after he recovered from the trip to the mainland). After a couple of other minor courts, he was assigned to the main Crab court, as third diplomat in the delegation. There he also got a yojimbo, a Tsuruchi archer named Kasumi. She had spent some time at the Kaiu wall and her advise was very important for him to get a nice deal for sake. They would stay together for a number of years except for a small pause when Kasumi got married and he learned a lot about court life on the mainland. He was assigned to various courts where he often got things done by not working through the normal Yoritomo way but by more traditional ways. He also knew most traditional ceremonies and the more important Mantis diplomats often relied on him for those details if they had visitors.
After a number of years he was reassigned to the Yoritomo courtier school as minor sensei. Lucky for him he was assigned to a satelite dojo in the Moshi lands, so he didn't have to take a boat. He was there for two years when the sudden death of the karo of the main diplomat at the imperial court died of fugu poisoning. As he knew a lot about the traditional ceremonies (which a karo should) and he was the most experienced courtier they could quickly move there, he got orders to go to Kyuden Seppun. There he quickly became an indispensable organisor at the Mantis embassy.

The ronin Mattori, birth name unknownRings
Fire:5 Water:4
Earth:3 Air:3 Void:1 Distinctions
Seppun Guardsman, Yojimbo, Sensei, Kensei, Renowned Duelist, Poor Reputation, Murderer, Dishonorable, Forbidden Knowledge (Kolat)
AppearanceAge: 41
Height:5'8" Weight: 180lbs Long, dark hair, healthy but never meticulously well maintained. Dark, mistrusting eyes that have clearly seen far too much of the world. His face is rugged and worn, small scars and the wear of time evident throughout his gruff demeanor. A short, rough beard covers his chin and lower face, again clean but obviously not groomed. He generally wears dark, muted colors, with no evidence of any clan or affiliation, across everything from his day to day kimono to his worn and beaten, though obviously well made armor. Background
Born the fifth son of a low-ranking Seppun who had made more than a few enemies in his time, expectations for the man who would later become Mattori were tempered at best. He was raised at the bottom of his pecking order, always fighting for any chance at recognition or attention, but for years was constantly being outshined by his older brothers. By the time he began to prepare for his gempukku, however, something had changed. His teachers began praising his dedication to his studies and emerging natural talent, not just in the way of the sword as his brothers were but also in the finer arts, something unheard of in his family. Soon though, his skill with a blade surpassed any in his family before him, and as such was quickly courted into the prestigious Seppun guard. His training proceeded at a pace that amazed his instructors, to the point that within a few years he was often invited by his sensei to tea in order to discuss the fundamental values of their school, even to the point where he was aiding in the training of younger students.
It was not all smooth sailing for the young man, however. Since he was a child, he had maintained an unfortunate habit to speak his mind, often going past the point of propriety and even passing into insulting at times. It was ignored for a time, but his close proximity to those of other Clans, especially the Otomo, made his outspoken attitude a problem that would only get incrementally worse.
After spending a good portion of time hidden away in a training academy by his superiors, who treasured his ability with a blade but feared the shame his unfortunate tendencies could bring upon them, the inevitable happened. A prominent Otomo's son, who placed his own skill far above where his instructors might, came into conflict with the brash Seppun, who quickly insulted the younger man, much to their superior's dismay. The duel was approved, though it was made absolutely clear that it was only to first blood.
The next day, they stood in the ring, eyes locked, the Otomo visibly smug and arrogant, with only cold calculation present on the Seppun's steely face. The duel took only moments, but the ease at which the Otomo had been disarmed and cut enraged the younger man. He took up his blade and rushed the Seppun, who in the process of turning to defended himself instinctively took advantage of the over extension and gutted the Otomo from neck to navel.
While those present at the duel knew the truth of things, the Seppun was known to be from a fairly insignificant family with a bad reputation, and the Otomo's family did not hesitate to begin to slander his name after the incident, even to the point where two more men fell to the Seppun's blade as he tried to defend his honor. Eventually, the contempt with which many in the Imperial court held the young man forced the Seppun to give him the option to either commit seppuku, or be exiled. Enraged at the betrayal of those he thought he had only ever served to the best of abilities, the man left that night, taking only his armor and daisho as well as a few personal effects, quickly getting as far away from Imperial influence as possible.
Adopting the name Mattori, he began to travel the furthest, most remote corners of the Empire, searching for something. Something to validate that which he knew to be true, that there were still those in the Empire worth helping, those that valued the Empire over their own place in that hierarchy. For twelve years he wandered, avoiding samurai where he could, helping those in need and above all, training. He spent every day perfecting his swordsmanship, as it was his primary way to feed and shelter himself, protecting people from bandits and the like, though it still seemed like not enough. Everywhere he went, people were the same, and none of them with the ability or the will to try and preserve the natural order.
One day, he was travelling the coast of Crab territory, when he came across a band of Crane pirates loading up their recent haul. They took one look at him and decided they couldn't afford to leave him alive, especially as he had seen their true identity. He held his ground as they attacked at first, killing at least eight of them with ease before they managed to wound him enough to subdue him. Before they were able to finish him off, however, a unit of cavalry in Crab armor began riding over the hill. Knowing they could not afford to be caught with stolen goods in Yasuki territory, especially with Crane colors, the remaining pirates quickly fled, leaving most of the loot but making sure to take anything that could trace back to their Clan. When Yasuki Odai arrived on the scene, he found Mattori barely alive, though found himself impressed as it was clear this one man had fought the other pirates on his own. While he lamented the others had escaped, his stolen property was returned, and perhaps he had even gained a new ally...
Having the ronin nursed back to health, Odai and Mattori had many hours to talk, during which the ronin discovered a strange quality in this man. Here was a loyal servant of the Empire, who was willing to put his family and the Empire above any personal desires, and found himself drawn to the young Yasuki. As such, when Odai offered Mattori the chance to become his "shadow yojimbo", so to speak, where he would have the opportunity to aid in such endeavors, he could not help but accept. Since that day, Mattori has been Odai's right hand, working in the shadows but always being there when the Yasuki governor needs him to be.

Character Name: Mirumoto Mizuki Clan: Dragon School: Tamori Shugenja Profession: Spirit Binder Rings: Earth: 5 Water: 4 Air: 1 Fire: 3 Void: 3 Appearance: Mizuki is a beautiful, if tall, young woman. Her jade green eyes and dark brown hair accent a face that could have been sculpted by a master sculptor. Like the alabaster she appears to be carved from though, she can easily become hard and unfeeling. Age: 17 Height: 6’0” Weight: 161 Eyes: Jade green Hair: Light brown Distinctive Marks and Items: Mizuki has a tattoo that starts on her back of a golden dragon, it runs under her right arm with the head resting on her breast. She carries a daisho forged by her uncle and a fan of Badger make. Family: Youngest and smallest child of Mirumoto Buso and Mirumoto Patoron. She has two older brothers: Mirumoto Jurou and Togashi Gakushu (Kurimuzon Te). Spouse: None Attitude/Personality: With her thoughts so often intermingled with that of her kami people sometimes think of her as scatterbrained and those that don’t know her at all sometimes regard her as delusional. She always tries to be polite, though she has no patience with the impulsive. History: Being the youngest child and only daughter of the Mirumotos of the Iron Mountain, Mizuki was doted on as an infant and young child. When her mother first sensed the abilities of the shugenja in the young girl she started to teach her what little she knew. When Patoran taught all she could she took her daughter to the Iron Mountain Dojo. There Mizuki was taught by the Tamori masters of earth. She spent many years at the dojo learning to work and cast alongside the bushi of the Dragon. During one of her castings she felt something different from the kami she was working with. This kami started to come more and more often to Mizuki’s calls. Over the years a bond had started to form between the two. Eventually the kami, a small badger shaped spirit named Mujina, attached herself fully to Mizuki. After the bond was completed Mizuki noticed that her spells were much more powerful than before. During this time Mizuki was also being taught the ways of a courtier. With her oldest brother joining the Ise-Zumi, and the middle child being a rikugunshokan it was left to her to learn the ways and represent her family at court. Shiba Yukari Artisan and long-suffering wife. Distinctions: Kakita Artisan, Artisan of Repute, Beautiful, Gentle Heart, Paragon of Compassion, MarriedEarth: 1 Fire: 4 Air: 5 Water: 3 Void 3 Height: 5'4" Weight: 100 lbs. Family- Father: Kakita (Asahina) Hirai (middle-aged, balding, walks with a limp) Mother: Kakita Koizumi (middle-aged, gracious, refined, fashionable) Siblings: None Backstory- Kakita Yukari was the sole offspring of a vigorous, hard-driving courtier and a very quiet man whose Asahina heritage hadn't included any gift with the kami whatsoever. To her mother's chagrin, the child took after her father, so far as inclinations went, preferring to create works of beauty to the deadly dance of Court. Mild-mannered and retiring, Yukari would never make a great courtier- but she excelled in the Kakita Artisan Academy, mastering an astonishing variety of skills, ranging from swordsmithing to painting to gardening... she seemed capable of making beauty from anything. Such talent caught the eyes of many suitors, but Yukari's mother continued to hold out for a better match... until, at 19 years of age, Yukari's suitors, one by one, had vanished. It was in that situation that a nakodo employed by Shiba Gorobei came calling. While the thought of their sole child marrying out of the Crane clan appalled Koizumi, Hirai, Yukari's father, seemed pleased at the thought of a Phoenix connection, and in time, her betrothal to Shiba Kaigen was formalized an approved by all four parents. Those familiar with the bride and groom have wondered what they were thinking ever since the match was announced...
