Character Creation in Emerald Empire 2 is very simple and has only 3 steps. Through these three steps you can create a persona fit to help rule the empire and alter the course of the nation. Whether you want to be a paragon of virtue, a hardy soldier, or even a low-brow thug, the choice is primarily up to you, the player. The 3 steps are as follows:
1.) Character Description - First think about who or what you want to play and give us a few paragraphs of description as to who your persona is. think about their history, personality, and appearance. Consider what sort of things you want them to be able to do within the world of Rokugan, and think of how you want them to interact with other people in and out of your clan. If you are strapped for ideas you can always play the game of twenty questions from the L5R core rules or bounce ideas off your friends. People on this forum should be friendly as well and hopefully willing to listen to what fun ideas you may have.
You might find the following form useful for describing your character.

Please find a place to publicly store your character description data. Whether you create a new thread for it, or have an entire web page devoted to your character (which would be awesome by the way), make sure there is a place others can reference who you are so that they may properly interact with you.
Characters in Emerald Empire 2 may be:
a.) Competent - Especially because of the simplicity of the system we use, your character should be able to take care of himself. He need not run around helplessly and hope for the best. these are people who have spent their lives training for what they do and they are very good at it. Your persona knows what he is about and you may feel free to play that way.
b.) Experienced - You can consider that your character has been around the block a few times before. He does not have to be (but can be if you want a fun challenge) a wet-behind-the-ears samurai just finished with his gempukku. In terms of the official L5R RPG, you may consider that your character is rank 2 or 3 by comparison. If you have experience with the card game, you may think of you persona as being an Experienced 1 or 2 personality.
c.) Powerful - We would like to tell a story about those samurai who will effect the entire empire. We want your character to be involved in great adventures and dastardly schemes upon which hinge the fate of civilization. In order to do this, you must be someone with good social connections, a strong connection to the kami, and/or a reputable skill with the sword. Remember that there will be others who are also powerful and so you must temper your power with respect for others. But it is this temper that will make you a true player of the game with others.
Now, if you want something different or fun to do, you need not conform to each and every one of the stereotypes. If you want to play a young samurai who does not yet know the breadth of the world, or an aged monk who has yet to accomplish anything in his life, that’s also just fine. Heroes can come from unlikely places and ultimately we are here to tell stories, not to compare strengths.
2.) Prioritize Rings - In Emerald Empire 2 you only have 5 stats. We are using these simple numbers to abstract a whole life time of experience and make for the simplest possible game whereby we can focus on good role-playing and fun interaction without getting bogged down in excessive minutiae. These Five Stats are, of course, the five rings for which the empire is so renowned: Earth, Air, Fire, Water, and the Void. Please take a moment to prioritize the strength of these rings in your character. Assign one of these rings to a value of 5, one to 4, two to 3, and one to 1. the ring of 5 represents your greatest strength and the 1 represents a place where your character is not as well developed. Do not fret too much over these placements as they are, once again, abstract. Not only do they represent a relative power level in comparison to your fellow players but later in the game you will have a chance to change and reassign where your strengths and weaknesses are.
Please make sure to keep your ring values in your miniprofile for easy reference for yourself and others.
3.) Buy Distinctions - A starting player will be equipped with 800 Glory Points with which to buy distinctions, which are traits that add to your character’s strengths. Please take the time to look over the Distinction Store and purchase for your character one starting school and some other distinctions or political favors you will find in the Glory Shop along other resources. If you are a shugenja, you may also buy an Element distinction. If you are an Ise-Zumi and wish some tattoos, you may buy them. These will be automatically stored in your user profile and can be used throughout the game to overcome trials and conflicts.
Having gone through the toil and trial of these three steps you are now ready to play in the world of Emerald Empire 2 and make your mark across the landscape of the New Dawn Era!
IMPORTANT:
After 6 months of absense your character is prone to become an NPC at service of the Storytelling Team.
