Post your rules questions below. As we answer them we will move them into this opening post for everyone to see.
Q.) After noticing the "Master of Games" reputation in the Glory Shop, I've conceived the notion that I'd like my character to be a highly skilled Go player. Which ring would you consider to govern playing such a game? The L5R RPG suggests that Games: Go is based on Intelligence (i.e. Fire) but it wouldn't be crazy to consider it to be based on Water or Air. I thought I'd check before inadvertently placing my "1" and "5" in the wrong rings.
A.) Water and it's reliance on perception would be the most appropriate. For futher clarification see: Rings
Q.) Do we edit our character sheets to include purchased distinctions?
A.) Yes.
Q.) I've noticed the inclusion of Ring statistics in signature blocks. Is that required or recommended?
A.) As of now it is lightly recommended for the ease of reference of your fellow players. You may also want to consider putting a link to your character description in your signature if you want people to see more about your character.
Q.) When we are assigned our clans, players are given a large Glory point dump. Is this intended so that we may purchase our 'role' within the game? The lead documents state that we're the second tier movers and shakers, below the Imperial Houses and Clan Champions [and their administrations] but are at a level where our decisions effect whole regions, if not the whole Empire. So, are we to use those points to customize the position we will occupy when main play begins?
A.) Yes, your initial 800 glory is to be used to buy distinctions that define your character and start you out with about 5 disinctions. Extra glory may be spent or saved as you like.
Q.) Can we play two characters? I have a shugenja idea I'd also like to take for a run.
A.) It is technically possible to play two characters, but we would like one to be your sort of main character who interacts with the courts and makes the big actions. Glory will only be tracked for one character, although I suppose any role-playing you did as a second character would still feed into your main glory tracker.
Q.) Lastly, I've posted Usagi Kocho entering an Imperial Mandate task in Northern Rokugan. There are two of us posting in the region [doing different Mandates] we seem to be doing two different play styles. While I have posted one pretty generic 'hi, there, I'm here' post, another player [Kitsuki Haru-san] is making a series of posts detailing his journey down from the Dragon mountains. In both cases, the referee for the area, Otomo Yasuji-sama, has not posted in.
A.) I see where you're coming from and maybe I should explain this in further detail n the Info Board. Our general game here is to have self guided adventures where you can determine a lot of the details of a lot of your own story by yourself. You are really in control of your own destiny here. If you really feel like you need a more guided adventure, feel free to request some help from the GM team and we can give you a little push on your way. Our main job as GM's though is to track glory, votes and make sure that people are engaged in the bigger story. Don't feel bad at all, please. You have wonderful patience.
Q.) I don't really get the Elements in the Glory Shop. Can you explain them a little further please?
A.) The elements are meant o help define Shugenja characters if they wish to specialize in a particular element. If we introduce more monk schools, they will be used there as well. They represent magical strength in one or more types of elemental magic. Does that answer your question?
